Nicholas:

His eyes widened as soon as he saw the creature. "It's... ... It's kind of cute," he muttered quietly, before turning to Abigail. "Remember that bow and arrow you got? I think that'd be handy right about now." Not having a spear with him, he pulled out his switchblade, ready to defend him or Abigail from any attack. He tried advancing towards the thing, but it snapped its powerful jaws at him, causing Nicholas to flinch back.

Nicholas:

He heard the yelp, and quickly glanced at Abigail to see she was okay. "You alright?" he asked. He then turned to the hog-hippo-alligator-thing and saw that Abigail had planted an arrow into its stomach. The creature was getting weak from the wound. That was a pretty accurate shot. He thought to himself, before taking his knife and rushing over to the thing, sinking his knife into its heart, so that it was definitely dead.

Nicholas;

He nodded, liking the idea of naming it. He unwedged his knife from the animal, looking at it. He wasn't sure why, but if he viewed it in a way, it was almost cute. Almost. "How about... ... Snappy-Jaws-Thing-With-Hog-Hippo-Alligator-Parts?" He shrugged one shoulder as he said the sarcastic suggestion. "I've got nothing. You name it."

Nicholas:

"You go back and check the other traps," he said, taking the strange creature from her. "I'll start skinning this thing. I don't know where your traps are, and if you need me, just scream in pain and terror. This way, we'll get things done faster." He turned, swinging the dead thing by its tail, in a way that made Nicholas's stomach twist. "Have fun finding food," he said, with a small wave of his hand, then proceeded to walk back towards camp.

Nicholas:

He had sat down on a rock at camp, and began to skin the creature. It was a vile action, to him, and made him want to throw up. But he managed through. Finally, after the creature was skinned, he put the skins on a rock to dry out. He found two Y-shaped sticks and put them a few feet away from each other, then skewered the creature's remnants onto a straight stick. He set the straight stick in the crook of the two Y-shaped sticks, so it was being held up, then created a fire underneath that cooked it. Nicholas turned the creature every few seconds, so it would be fully cooked.

Abigail isn't back yet, he thought to himself. Surely it can't take this long to check out traps! ... Maybe I should go check on her. But I don't hear anything wrong, and the fire might catch on something if I don't watch it carefully... ... I hope she's alright.

Nicholas:

"Fun? Not really. I wouldn't consider it fun to skin an animal." He shrugged one shoulder. "Do what you want with the skins. I don't care." He then turned the animal again, seeing that it was become more and more of a cooked brownish color. "So," he said, looking at the fruits Abigail had. "What's with the fruits?" He then hesitated. "Do you know if those are poisonous or not? Here, let me see one."

He stood up and took one of the fruits, then sat down on a rock. He opened up the fruit, revealing its reddish insides, then squeezed some of its juice onto his palm. He sniffed it carefully. "It has... ... Citrus acids, a form of sugar..." He mumbled other things you would typically find in a fruit, then paused before saying, "... Perfluorinated carboxylic acid." He stood up, tossing the fruit aside, wiping the juice on his hand onto a rock. "In other words, this is toxic."

Nicholas:

"My parents use just about every single toxic chemical made on earth," he said. "Since I'm always in their lab, I can identify single things by their scent." He put the fire cooking the animal out, then held out the cooked creature to Abigail. "Go ahead and eat, you deserve some rest," he said, leaning against a rock. "I'm not hungry. I feel like I'll just vomit everything up if I eat something." Nicholas let out a sigh, then picked up another fruit. He opened it up, then studied the insides, allowing the scent to seep into his mind. After mumbling a few words, he said, "This one is safe to eat. It's going to be sweet- It carries a lot of sugar."

Nicholas:

He looked back at Abigail, then looked up at the sky. "... That was nothing. I only did what a person with some sort of brain should do." He let out a small yawn, unwillingly, but fought to stay awake. He hadn't slept that night, but he didn't want to sleep. He knew Abigail was pretty tired, and he was going to allow her to sleep while he kept watch. Nicholas blinked a bit, trying to keep the tiredness away. "But I'm really glad your fever is gone. You had me worried."

He shrugged one shoulder. "Don't worry about me," he said. "I'll always be fine. Worry about yourself." He then nodded, hearing her last sentence. "... Thanks." He noticed the sun had gone down and it was pretty dark, with the exception of a few lines of pink in the sky. "I think I'm going to get some sleep now. 'Night, Abigail. Wake me up if you want to sleep, or if you need me." He grabbed the sleeping bag he found in his backpack and crawled into it. He laid his head down, a sigh of relief following the action. Nicholas blinked a few times, until finally, his amber eyes closed and his breathing slowed. When he was asleep, he looked a lot more peaceful, almost like a young child.

Nicholas:

All of the wandering thoughts in his mind had melted into one dream, a memory from his life.

'I present to you, Project N-938!' Nicholas heard a familiar voice, his mother, announce to an auditorium full of scientists. At once, curtains were pulled back and a blinding light filled Nicholas's eyes, until he blinked and could see clearly again. He was strapped to a chair, unable to move a single muscle. His head was bowed down, his hair falling as a shield to his face.

'Look at the crowd, Nicholas,' growled a voice in his ear, his father's. 'You're the star of the show.' Nicholas let out a small grunt of pain as his father's strong hand gripped his hair, forcing his head up so every single scientist could see his face.

'This steroid could be of use to the army!' Nicholas's mother was announcing again. 'With a single ounce injected into a human, a reaction will cause quite a bit of their blood to be vomited from their very mouths! Please... Watch.'

Nicholas began to struggle against his bonds as his mother approached him, a large needle in her hand. He tried to yell for help, but the scientists just laughed at his pitiful attempts to escape. He felt the needle breaking through his skin, into his veins, and stayed still, so it wouldn't move. When the needle was pulled out from his vein, a horrible pain was sent through his body. Nicholas let out a long yell, feeling the blood in his veins flowing unnaturally. Blood began to drip from his mouth at great amounts, the pain unbearable. It felt like somebody had stabbed him several times in the stomach. Nicholas had knocked the chair over onto his side, as his blood began to pool around him. He heard the laughter and cheers of the crowd, until his vision faded to black...

Nicholas woke up with a start, his amber eyes wide and full of fear. He sat up, closing his eyes and trying to clear his mind. He was breathing rapidly, and he felt horribly cold, despite the warm weather and the fact that he was under an incredibly warm sleeping bag, and was wearing a hoodie. He hugged his body, shivering tremendously and having difficulty speaking. "... ... It's... ... It's so... ... Cold..." His eyes narrowed, as if he were in pain. "A... ... Abi... ... Abigail..." Blood slowly dripped from his mouth, onto his hoodie. The flow was thin, not enough to make him weak like before.
