Nicholas: I hate dogs. They're stupid, they're gross, they're noisy- "Really? Well, that's, um... ... Nice." Sure, the girl had a good intention, and at least the dog kept her alive. But if he were in her place, he wouldn't even care about dogs. In fact, dogs were his least favorite animal on earth. He shrugged one shoulder. "I'm glad you care enough about something as little as a dog. That's, uh, nice of you."

Nicholas: He blinked a few times. "Well, that's a good reason, I guess. Are you sure he didn't like you for your food?" He then looked at Abigail with widened eyes. "Where did that question come from?!" he hissed, looking at her. "We go from talking about our sad and depressing lives and suddenly you ask about relationships?" He then rolled his eyes, crossed his arms, and muttered a small, "No." He then looked at Abigail, and as if to defend himself, quickly said, "But only because I never liked any girl in my neighborhood! And everybody kind of stayed away from me. I'm like a human repellant."

Nicholas: He then let out a sigh, knowing he had gotten out of hand. That's not good, Nicholas. Not good. "Alright, we can talk about relationships... It just kind of surprised me." And you're a total loser at relationships, Nicholas. Ever have a girlfriend? No. "... What about you? You ever have a... Boyfriend?"

Nicholas: "... I'm sorry to hear that," he said quietly, looking at the ground. Now they were back to depressing stories, weren't they? Nicholas then glanced back at the redheaded girl, the color of his eyes coming into his mind. "Experiment. My entire family has blue eyes. My eyes were blue, too. But, after my parents decided to experiment with the DNA of my eyes, then it all went wrong and now I'm some sort of wolf-eye-colored guy." He thought of a question. "So, do you have any memories with your parents?"

Nicholas: "... I'm really sorry, about your parents," he said quietly, feeling the emotion of her words. He truly felt horrible for her. She's been through a lot, and she's been going down a rough and bumpy road. Nicholas couldn't tell if Abigail were crying or not- It seemed like an appropriate time to cry, but he couldn't see her face. "Actually, it's your turn to ask a question," he replied, very very quietly and softly.

Nicholas: His body stiffened when she asked about the scars. He rolled up one of his sleeves, so he could look at some of the scars that covered his arms. "My parents. Sometimes I'd try to get away when they injected things into me, and the needle would move." He unrolled his sleeve. "Other times, my parents would try to intimidate me into staying still and accepting the drugs by using a knife on me." He quickly thought of another question, not wanting to dwell on the past he hated. "What's your favorite color?"

Nicholas: He nodded with agreement. "Yeah, you seem to have recovered quite a bit." He stood up, brushing off some dirt that got on his hoodie. He then looked at Abigail, noticing that she had practically been staring at him for quite a while. "Would you please, please stop looking at me like that?" he requested, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "You're making me feel like a rabbit in a room full of foxes." He picked up the shredded-up shirt he had left on a rock to dry, and saw that it had dried quite a bit, despite the matter of moistness it still held. "Are you coming? We should start making footprints while there aren't any wild animals around to pop up and eat our heads off." He began to walk in the direction the camp was in, his eyes looking forward. Nicholas always tried to look forward, to the future, instead of looking backwards and at the things he'd already done. The teen always told himself that you can't get anywhere by sticking in one spot, and you'd have to go further by looking forward and seeing the things that need to be done. At least, that's what he tried to think to himself whenever he woke up, finding himself strapped down to a metal table with his parents looming over him like two hawks who found some dead meat to chew on. Nicholas shook his head to himself. Don't think about the past, think about the future. Focus on staying alive and surviving right now. The past is nothing.

Nicholas: Finally, when the two reached camp, Nicholas finally looked at Abigail. "Oh, your clothes are kind of damp," he pointed out, suddenly realizing it was because of the wet strips of his shirt he had put on her. He sat down on a rock. "Sorry. I must have gone all out." He shrugged one shoulder, then picked up a small stone he quickly saw on the ground. Running his fingers over the smooth surface, he immediately felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He dropped the stone and made a sort of choking noise, as if he were being strangled by invisible hands that nobody could see. He quickly ran over to some odd purple bushes and proceeded to cough out large portions of blood onto the leaves and into the dirt, staining the ground with a sickening crimson red color. Having lost so much blood, Nicholas stumbled back to the rock, his head spinning and not thinking clearly. Nicholas let out some air through his mouth, cradling his head in his arms, and resting his elbows on his knees. He felt as if he were weak, like he couldn't even pick up a piece of paper.

Nicholas: A bit reluctantly, he nodded with agreement. "Alright," he said, his voice kind of airy and weak. He stumbled into a standing position, forcing himself to use whatever blood he had left in him for strength. "I.... .... Didn't know.... you had traps." There were short pauses in between his speech, breaking up his sentences in odd patterns, as if he were too weak to speak. He then swallowed some saliva, willing strongly for his head to stop moving. "We... Should go to-.... ... Gether. That way... We'll... Be there.... If the other gets.... In trouble." He was a bit off-balance, wobbling a bit and being unsteady on his feet. It was almost as if he were standing on a single string, like in circuses. Nicholas forced his arms to do a little gesture, which came out rather awkwardly, as if his hands had minds of his own and he were just a puppet. "Well, then," he said in his airy and unnatural voice. "... Lead the... ... Way."
