Nicholas:

He tipped his head to the side in very slight confusion. "Elizabeth? Did she cook the food?" He smiled at took another small bite. The Neko swallowed before answering, "Well, then, she's an amazing cook if she did." 

Rose; Nods Of course.  She has been here for four years now.  You should try her death by chocolate cake, or her apple pie.  They are to die for. she smiles I'm so glad I found Elizabeth, I don't know what I would've done without her, she has been so supporting through the years...She trails off not wanting to explain herself.  She grabbed her water and took a slow sip so she wouldn't be obliged to finish her sentence right away.

Nicholas:

"They sound... Wonderful." To be honest, he had never eaten any sweets in his life before. No cake, no pies, not even a little lemon drop. But, still,  by the way Rose described Elizabeth's desserts, they seemed delicious. He looked at Rose. "Mm... Were you going to finish your sentence? It seems like you weren't done." 

Rose; sees her way out and slowly lowers her eyes to look at her glass.  A slow blush infusing her cheeks as she realized she was going to lie.  But when she talks her voice is as smooth as it normally if a little flat Oh no...nothing more to add to my sentence. She forces a smile Elizabeth is truly wonderful though.  I will introduce you to her after dinner if that would suffice you?  I think you will like her very much. She is much kinder than me. She takes another sip nearly choking but she quickly fixes her dilemma and takes a bite of her food to cover her embarresment at almost slipping her most important secret

Nicholas:

He looked at Rose, but said nothing. He noticed the blush, and how she seemed as if she were hiding something. "She sounds very kind. Though I almost doubt how anybody could be nicer than you." He took another bite of his food, almost feeling full. He had a small stomach, so he wasn't used to eating as much as an average person did. The suspense of what she was about to say was getting to the Neko, though. He looked at Rose. "Are you sure you weren't about to finish your sentence?" he asked. She was acting like she was about to reveal her greatest secret.

Rose; She blushes darkly at his compliment and his question cursing herself for slipping. She lowers her eyes to look at her hands twisted in her lap.  She gripped her fingers painfully before she looked back to Nicholas. Twas kind of you to compliment me...but...she pauses thinking about it.  Unshed tears start to glisten in her eyes but she blinks and looks away. T'is nothing that I think you would enjoy to hear or that I would enjoy to say...can her breathing hitched slightly as she choked on her words. She swallows almost painfully before she finishes her sentence. Can we say no more about it? She finally looks at him again her eyes pleading and full of unshed tears though one was threatening to spill and slid down her cheek.

Nicholas:

Noticing how Rose was on the verge of bursting out in tears, he stopped pushing at her. "Of course we can stop," he replied, his voice quieter than usual. But what was her secret? It seemed big, mysterious, and Rose appeared to care about it. But he'd made Rose begin to cry. That's what damaged him the most. He wouldn't deny it, he believed Rose was such a nice person. So what kind of person would he be, to make a kind person begin to cry? Well, he'd be a fool and inconsiderate. And he hated to be inconsiderate. Nicholas chewed slowly on some food, to give him an excuse for sitting there in silence. Finally, after swallowing, he looked at Rose with his deep red eyes looking rather apologetic. "I apologize," he said quietly, as if he were speaking to one of his old owners, "for pushing at your words. Honestly and truly, forgive me." At this time, if Nicholas had been with one of his old owners, he would have been beaten until he couldn't move. 

Rose;  Looks at her food.  Her appetite gone but she shakes her head. Thanks, but you have no reason to be sorry.  I shouldn't begrudge you your curiosity because of a few bad memories...but I cannot tell you of that portion of my past.  Only Elizabeth knows, and I'm not ready to talk to anyone else about it.  If anyone should apologize though it should be me.  I'm sorry for being oversensitive

Nicholas:

"No, don't apologize. I'm just a little nosy, that's all." He blinked a few times. It was understandable, that Rose wanted to keep those memories a secret. He had several things he wanted to keep a secret himself. Noticing the awkward silence that had fallen among the two, Nicholas wanted to change the conversation. But what would he change it with? "So, uh... What's your favorite food?" Nicholas asked awkwardly. It was a very, very stupid question, he knew. But he just wanted something to change the conversation with. 

Rose; Noticing that he really did understand, or seem to...and that he was trying to change the subject, however poorly the attempt was brought a slight smile to her lips.  She glanced at Nicholas and decided to pick up the change. Why I'd have to say mexican or thai in general.  Nothing like a little spice for the taste buds?  How about you?  What genre of food is your favorite? And your favorite meal?  Her eyes were full of curiosity and genuine interest.  Perhaps she could get Elizabeth to make it for him one of these days.

Nicholas:

Now he knew that the topic of change was not a wise one. He did not have a favorite food- he wasn't accustomed to eating such fine food. His typical diet consisted of bread, cheese, and water. Never anything like Mexican food or mashed potatoes, or spicy things. Hist past owners always thought slaves were not worthy of eating such wonderful-tasting food. Rather sheepishly, he replied, "No, I don't really have a favorite food or anything. I don't have a favorite genre. To be honest, though, I can eat anything. As long as it tastes good." He let out a small, small smile. 

Rose; Detects a slight aversion but she smiles back slightly Well then, I will have to have Elizabeth create her specialties and more for you.  We shall broaden your horizons soon enough.  She pauses slightly Not that I'll spoil you overmuch with that, but we do eat a wide variety of food here and I don't want to make something you wouldn't like. She pauses again.  Thinking...

Nicholas:

"Well, sounds great," he replied. "And don't worry- I'd probably enjoy anything Elizabeth would make." He was about to add a small 'Anything is better than what I used to eat', but he decided not to. He just felt like he didn't want anybody's sympathy. And it was true- he could eat anything. He didn't have any food allergies. And when he tasted something that was so much better than stale bread, moldy cheese, and rainwater, his tastebuds detected it as delicious. 

Rose; smiles I'm sure Elizabeth might enjoy to hear that.  You'll probably become her new guinea pig when she decides to try a new recipe...you might mind that will you? She looks at Nicholas her eyes wide and slightly unsure. (sorry it's short...writer's block)

Nicholas:

He smiled the teeniest bit. "No, I wouldn't mind at all," he replied. Being a guinea pig was fine with him. Just as long as he didn't devour poison or anything that would harm him, he'd be alright.

(( Sorry for the short post. I'm in a bit of a hurry. )) 

Rose; smiles Elizabeth will certainly be glad then. She usually tries a new recipe at least once a week.  She got tired of using me though, I usually loved everything she made. she laughed softly, quietly. She hates anyone who agrees to everything she says, I suppose that comes from having to do so so long.  Now she wants to test her independence.

Nicholas:

"Well, she truly sounds like a wonderful person," he commented quietly, his right ear twitching slightly as he thought. This Elizabeth girl, she seemed like somebody who enjoyed challenging herself. Looking at Rose, he said, "Well, I'll be sure to tell her my thoughts on the food. I'm sure I won't definitely say that everything tastes perfect." 

Rose; laughs Okay.  I'll introduce you to her after dinner. she looks at her food then sighs an errant thought twisting through her mind.  She twists her fork then stabs a peice of meat chewing it slowly as she thought.  She took a sip of water, then looked at her fork as if trying to see into the future.

Nicholas:

He simply nodded silently, taking a small bite of what appeared to be steamed broccoli. The delicious flavor bursted in his mouth, as he chewed on the vegetable. He was still a little shocked that he was able to eat such fine food. 

Rose; sighs again and pulls herself out of her less then happy thoughts.  She looks at nick and a small smile tugs at the corner of her mouth. Do you like horses Nick?  Have you ridden?  Are you good at riding?  Have you ever mucked a stall or combed the dust out of their coat? She pauses feeling as if she was talking too much, but while she liked silence, she did not like the silence that left her to dig into her past. She found that silence oppressive.
