Then she kneels down and starts blowing on the fire which had died down to get it going again. Nick; chuckles slightly in derision I have almost as much to do as you do. Except right now my parents are pressuring me to marry. he pauses They're pheasants they grow used to their lives. Kate is only different because she's a basket baby as she's told you. That makes her an outsider to all the other pheasants here. Therefore she is ridiculed, and the most sought out to be abused. Being pretty hardly helps her case either. Her life is not good, i've been keeping the worst of the mongals off of her for years, but i can only do so much. Of course Kate doesn't like knowing she's being helped...she is rather stubborn when she feels like it. No her life is not good. and neither is anyone else's. But no matter what we do they'll still be lowly. The only thing that can lift them is marriage...and even then they tend to be degraded by their spouse's peres. Otherwise i would've found some guy for Kate to marry, and gotten her to like him to some point. | |

Nick; raises a brow Lower class don't marry for love...not usually. There parents usually force them to marry someone with money so they'll be elevated. Which is why after Kate's "parents" died Kate vowed not to marry. She doesn't want to marry some old rich brute if she is still alive on her debt ridden farm. | |
