Many of the iron born wanted to fight. They'd rather die than give up and even started to change theon's mind but his second in command opened up the gates. Robb had said that any iron born, other than Theon, would be allowed safe passage home if they surrendered but Ramsay had other plans. They were all rounded up and locked away. Kenny did too.
