Diego followed Rose. "What happened?" Surprisingly Klaus was the second Hargreeves on the scene. "Lissa?"

"Stay with her." Rose told Klaus after a little bit. A couple times Lissa had tried to explain but had been crying too hard. She slipped away from her and went to Lissa's room. At first she saw nothing wrong with the bare room. Then she saw it. A fox laying on the bed. It would have been adorable if not for the fact that it's neck had been cut open. The inside of the throat looked pink and jellylike. Blood stained its soft coat and had run down onto the bedspread, forming a dark pool that spread across the fabric. The fox's glazed over eyes stared upward with a sort of shocked look about them, like it couldn't believe this was happening. Rose could feel herself growing sick but kept it down. She couldn't afford to throw up over a fox. She went over and plunked a note up off the pillow.

I know what you are. You won't survive being here. I'll make sure of it. Leave now. It's the only way you might live through this.

Klaus put a hand on Lissas shoulder. He didn't really know how to help her so he did what he did best. Talk. "So i was reading up on your species. I know the sun hurts you and all but you really need to try to come out during the day more. I miss you being around." There hadnt really been any change in how mich he hung out with her.

Diego followed Rose in. He went over to the fox.

Lissa looked at him. She sniffled and nodded weakly. She did try to be up to see him at least a little during the day but she wanted to be around more.

Rose forced herself to look at the poor animal. She wasn't the biggest animal fan, mostly because they hated dhampirs, but what happened to it still hit her hard. She couldn't imagine how awful it must have been for Lissa to find it. She adored animals and had begged for a pet since leaving the academy. She then looked at Diego.

Klaus smiled. "I invented a new recipe for a new kind of drink. You should try it."

Diego went over and picked it up by a leg. "I'll get rid of it."

"Okay." Lissa said

Rose nodded. "Thanks." She tucked the note into her pocket. What were they going to do? Leaving would make them easier targets but whatever twisted person that did this had shown they weren't too hard of a target where they were.

Klaus smiled. He grabbed her arm. "Come on." He took her to the bar part of the house and grabbed a couple glasses.

Diego took it out and tossed it into the dumpster outside.

Lissa followed him. She had never been a big drinker. The main reason she had done it back at school was to fit in. But she welcomed the distraction of just being with Klaus. He didn't block out what she had seen, namely that when she had walked in the poor creature had still been twitching on the bed, but she could hope.

Rose collected the blood stained blanket and sheet and followed him out. "I don't understand why anyone would want to hurt her."

Klaus smiled and got to work mixing their drinks. It was surprisjingly sweet with a strong alcohol after taste.

Diego shrugs. "Shes the princess isn't she?"

Lissa watched him but dark thoughts kept spinning around her head. All the blood was too much for her. Too like what she had seen after the car crash. Her parents. Andre. He wouldn't have this happen to him. Everyone adored her brother. He should have been the one to survive. Not her. She wasn't what the Moroi needed. Without thinking she dug her nails into her arm deep enough to draw blood. She flinched from the pain but that was exactly what she needed: a release from her own thoughts.

Rose nodded but didn't really make the connection. None of the other royals got threats like that. Especially the prince or princess of each family. Although none of them were out alone with a novice dhampir as their only protection.

Klaus noticed her flinch and gently grabbed his arm. "Hey, hey! Don't do that!"

Diego sighed. "We might have rooms closer to the middle of the house. We could even put her on a higher floor. Hell, Five doesn't mind her. Put her up next to him. He won't let anything happen to her."

Lissa looked down at her bleeding arm and smiled bitterly. "Everyone back home is so worried about my blood. I'm the last one left. I'm so special. Until I'm not useful to them. Then they put me aside until they can use me again. But they're watching. Always watching. I thought we got away but they're back. Rose should let them take me. I hold her back. She could have such a good life if it wasn't for me. Everyone would."

Rose nodded. "I don't want her back in that room for sure. She doesn't need to think about" she looked at the dumpster "this."

Lissa took it and quickly drank it. Almost immediately she felt better. She watched the glass as the dark voice faded. "I'm going to end up like them."

Rose sighed and looked around. "Strigoi I can handle. The queen bitch is no problem. But how do I fight someone when I don't even know who they are?"
