Clay was on the couch in the study, reading over a textbook. He glanced up when Elena walked in but didn't otherwise acknowledge her existence. That is, until she made an offhand comment about having taken a class in anthropology and being interested in it. Hours later the two were still in the study. Elena sat sideways on the couch, facing clay, with her legs crossed under her. Clay was happily explaining whatever he could think of from mesoamerican jaguar cults to Tlingit kushtaka myths. He was just glad to have someone show real interest in what he was saying. Sure the others tolerated his lectures but he knew no one actually liked them. No one except for elena, who was soaking it all up like a sponge. She looked happier than she had in a long time. | |
