Everyone kneeled when Negan came in. "As you were." He called. Looking at everyone, he started his speech. "What you are all about to witness is going to be unpleasant. It doesn't have to be, it doesn't even have to happen. Fucking hell, I wish it wouldn't. I wish I could let it slide and ignore the rules, but I can't. Why?"
"The rules keep us alive!" The gathered saviors said in unison.
Negan took the heavy glove to keep his skin protected and put it on. "That's right. The rules keep us alive. It's how we survive. We bring civilization back to this world- we're the saviors. And we can't do that without the rules. They're what makes everything work. So we can't ignore them, no matter how small they might seem. I know it may seem trivial, or even callous on my part. But there's no fucking truth to that at all. When I choose a new wife, the process is completely voluntary. It's an honor to be with me, to no longer have to earn points to trade for goods and services. But it comes at a price: total devotion. And that can sometimes be a hard pill for people to swallow, but swallow it they must. Or it's the iron for you! Sorry Mark, it is what it is." He took the iron from Carson and pressed it to the right side of Mark's face.
Everyone looked on in shock. Amber was sobbing, and Sherry pulled her into a hug. She scanned the crowd to avoid looking at the gruesome scene and her eyes landed on Dwight. She gave him an apologetic look, still guilty for what happened to him. | |

Even if people looked away, the sounds of Mark's screams and the horrid smell of burning flesh was hard to ignore.
Negan pulled the iron away, having to use some force as some of what once was his skin was stuck to the metal. "See? All done. Was that so bad?" He peered at Mark's face. "Huh. Passed out. Pussy." He backed off and put the iron down. "This matter is settled. All is forgiven. Mark will forever bear the shame of his actions on his face. All will know what he's done. I hope that we all have learned something today. Because I really don't fucking want to do that ever again." He walked away.
As Mark was drug away, Amber tried to follow him. "Mark!" She was stopped by Sherry. | |
