Jake sat alone, far away from the group. He hadn't been near anyone unless it was necessary since returning from his hunting trip. Not that he liked being alone. He wanted to be with Beth and Luke and everyone, really. But especially Beth. He wanted the comfort that she gave him. When he was with her, it seemed like everything would be okay. But he couldn't be with them. It was too dangerous. No. HE was too dangerous. He could feel the anger in him. At any moment he'd explode. He recognized the anger. It was the same as when he was a kid, before he met the group. And it scared him. Jake pushed some of his hair away from his face. He remembered all the times Trevor had made fun of him for his too long hair, saying that it made him look like a girl. To make the pain of the memories go away, Jake started picking at the wounds on his hand. The physical pain gave him something other than the ever growing mental torment to think about. He let out a small sigh when the stitches broke and blood rushed from the wound. But that didn't stop him from continuing to pick at the injury. He pulled off little pieces of skin, his rough fingers having a hard time grasping his skin with all the blood. It didn't even hurt that much. | |
