In all of them, Beth was perfectly clean and perfect, but Maggie was bruised up and had dirt on at least some part of her. Maggie had kept her hair as short as her parents would allow while Beth kept hers long and neatly brushed. | |

The love and caring that had been put into ever minor detail of the house. These people had clearly cared about maggie and Beth, and he wished someone had given an ounce of care to him or his little siblings. There was a pang of jealousy in him, but mostly happiness to know that they had grown up in a better life than he had, not that it surprised him. | |
